How do I get started at John Jay Center for Learning?
Getting started at John Jay is easy. Just call our Student Services Advisor at 260-729-5525 Extension 2 or email Miranda Carr at: studentservices@johnjaycenter.com to schedule an appointment. Information is available on individual classes, certificates, and degree programs available from any of our partner schools. You can also recieve help with career planning, enrollment, and financial aid.

Am I getting a “real” degree at John Jay?
YES! All degrees and certifications earned at John Jay Center for Learning are from accredited organizations.

Can I take classes at John Jay that transfer to other schools?

College classes taken at the John Jay Center through Ivy Tech, Purdue Polytechnic and Indiana Wesleyan may transfer to other Indiana Universities and Colleges. The Student Services Advisor can explain more about the transfer process.

Will there be someone to guide me through the enrollment process?

John Jay Center for Learning's Student Services Advisor is here to help the student with the college process.She is here to assist you with everything from career planning and enrollment,  to financial aid and scheduling appointments with your advisor.

Will I feel comfortable at John Jay?

John Jay Center for Learning, conveniently located in downtown Portland, strives to provide an easily accessible location for education for our community. Whether you are working to complete your high school education or wish to enroll in college classes, we want you to feel comfortable from the beginning. You will receive a one-on-one experience with our Student Services Advisor, and our classes are typically smaller than those at a larger campus. If you ever have any concerns about your John Jay Center experience, please feel free to contact us and let us know how we can improve our service to you.

How does John Jay help with financial aid opportunities?
The Student Services Advisor at John Jay Center for Learning can provide prospective students with information about financial aid. Assistance is available with completing and filing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and applying for student loans.

Are there job placement services?
John Jay Center for Learning does not currently offer job placement; however, we have community partners who offer help with job placement such as  R & R Employment, and the Jay County Chamber of Commerce. John Jay Center for Learning also has partnerships with businesses and industries in the surrounding area to help build bridges for future employment opportunities.

Can I take all my classes locally?

Absolutely. This is what it is all about! John Jay Center wants to be your local connection if you need to finish your high school education or for higher education. Many classes are offered here at the center, and others can be taken online. Thanks to the Ball Brothers Foundation, we also offer  video-conferencing equipment which can connect our students here in Jay County to college classes almost anywhere. The most important part of John Jay is to be the central location for getting you enrolled and guiding you through the completion of your education no matter where the classes are held.

Are there online classes available?
Yes! As long as you are enrolled in the college through which you wish to take the class and have met all of the prerequisites, online classes are an option. Your advisor can help you find which classes are online and how to enroll. Proctored tests for online classes can be scheduled and administered right here at John Jay through our Student Services Coordinator.

How soon can I get started?

You can start immediately. Just contact us to make your appointment and we will begin the process. We invite you to stop in at John Jay Center for Learning during business hours and our friendly staff can answer any questions you have.
