Advanced Manufacturing 2 Course
Offered at Jay County Jr./Sr. High School
Jay County Jr-Sr High School had six students complete both the Green
and Yellow levels of John Jay's Industrial Maintenance program.
Upon completion of the first two levels, students then attend
internships with local industry partners. Students start this process
with interviews with multiple local employers who hire
industrial maintenance technicians. This year, the students interviewed
with three employers (FCC(Indiana), Priority Plastic and Tyson Mexican
Original). Some students only completed two interviews due to being
offered an internship prior to the last round of interviews.
During the internship process, students will complete different facets
of the industrial maintenance technicians roles. Many of the
internships started with an orientation to show the student what the
business does and what different opportunities there are at that
employer. The following weeks vary by employer, but generally follow
a plan to rotate the student around the different areas of the factory.
Production is covered with these students so that they understand
the process of creating the product that the employer creates. This will
expose the students to many of the machines/automation used in
the manufacturing process. The next area is typically in quality.
This exposes students to the process of verifying that parts are made
correctly and meet customer specifications. The final area is the
industrial maintenance area. This is where students fully apply all their
skills obtained throughout the school year and the previous areas of the
industrial partners manufacturingfacility. Students will work side by side
with seasoned industrial maintenance technicians, completing the roles
and responsibilities of an industrial maintenance technician.
Students completing the green and yellow levels this year were Jaron
Alexander, Brody Auker, Logan Brown, Lane Chapman, Bailey Cox and
Samuel Crump. These students will be prepared to apply and work full
time positions in local industry. These students have persevered through
an altered school year and have achieved higher levels of success in the
Jay Schools/John Jay partnership than ever before. This program is
scheduled to continue next year with more seniors. The incoming seniors
have completed entry level manufacturing courses and some other elective
classes to qualify them to be eligible. If you have any questions about the
